The eve of the Assumption in 2014 brought together many Marseillais in Place Colonel Edon to admire an open-air architectural spectacle in honor of the 800th anniversary of Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde. On the program: a gigantic video mapping projected onto the basilica's facade and a sound and light show for the delight of the people of Marseille.
Nicknamed "La Bonne Mère" (The Good Mother), the Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde basilica is an iconic landmark of the city of Marseille. Thanks to its architectural beauty and its location overlooking the capital of the South, the 19th-century basilica is the most visited monument in the Phocaean city.
The organizers of the 800th anniversary celebration of the Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde Basilica commissioned Studio Énorme to create an architectural spectacle retracing the history of Marseille's iconic monument, from its construction in 1214 to the present day. The video mapping animation, combined with the natural beauty of the site, allowed thousands of spectators, eager for magical moments, to relive 800 years of emotion.
